Omran Akasha was born and raised in Sebha, Libya and he is currently a father of three girls, two of which were born in the USA while in the Ph.D. program. In 2014, he completed his doctorate degree from Washington State University. His previous degrees were diverse starting with his B.A. degree in English Language Teaching from Sebha University, Libya in 1994. Followed by his M.A. degree in Arabic-English Translation from the University of Salford, UK in 2003. He also received his M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Bradford, UK in 2004. Dr. Akasha has worked for the University of Sebha as a faculty member in the Department of English who taught different English language courses to undergraduate students before coming to the USA in 2008. His doctorate research focuses on the culture and linguistic challenges facing Arabic-speaking ESL students. His research interests include English language teaching, cross-culture awareness for ESL, technology in teaching English language, and professional development for English language teachers.
